In order to commemorate the community and environmental achievements of the late Mrs Anne Beasley, the Council agreed for the new lookout being constructed at Boondall Wetlands to be named "Anne Beasley's Lookout".
Petition
About 350 local residents and environmentalists signed a petition calling for the naming.
Some of the community and environmental groups Anne was involved with included, Nudgee Beach Progress Association, Brisbane Airport Environmental Committee, Brisbane City Council's Wetlands and Waterways Advisory Group and the Northside Airport Action Group.
Best remembered
Anne will be best remembered for her chairing of the Boondall Wetlands Management Committee from its inception in 1992.
The Council lookout, not far from the Nudgee Road bikeway, gives outstanding views of the places Anne loved; Nudgee Beach, Boondall Wetlands and Moreton Bay. The Brisbane Airport, with which she had many environmental battles, is also clearly viewed from the lookout.
Partnership
A $100,000 partnership project between the State Government's Community Jobs Plan (CJP) and the Brisbane City Council provided the lookout with concrete paths and extensive landscaping.
Another $44,000 was provided by the Council for the viewing platform and shelter.
Anne Beasley's Lookout will become somewhere to remember her legacy. It will also be a wonderful community place to look out over Brisbane's environmental assets that she helped to preserve.
Opening
On Saturday 2nd February 2002 (World Wetlands Day), 100 invited guests and local community members attended the official opening of the lookout.
Anne's achievements were highlighted by local councillors, members of parliament and Anne's family.
