In 1988, the descendants of Lydia Nancy Orchard celebrated the acknowledgement of her pioneering spirit with the naming of Orchard Park, in Flower St, Northgate.
Mrs Orchard arrived from Liverpool (England) with her parents aboard the 'Renfrewshire' in 1883. Like many immigrant families to Moreton Bay in the late eighteen hundreds, they saw Australia as the land of opportunity.
The Orchard's operated a dairy and chicken farm where the park is now located.
The Toombul Bowls Club occupies the land that the family homestead was built on. When her husband Daniel's health began to fail in the 1920's, Mrs Orchard was forced to run the farm. One of her surviving grandchildren, Peter MacGregor, vividly remembers helping her tend to the cows.
Mrs Orchard died in 1957, not long after the Council resumed the remaining farm land for green space (now Orchard Park).
The Scouting Association of Queensland occupies the building on the Park. Each year in November, the scouts use this site for their singing and pantomime production, Wonargo Review.
