What is now Shaw Park on Shaw Rd, became a Deed of Grant to Robert George Massey subsequent to being offered for sale on 30 January 1857. The land changed ownership a number of times and was transferred to YMCA in November 1925.
The land had become known as YMCA Sports Ground and was acquired by Council for park purposes from the YMCA on 1 January 1947 following representations from Queensland Cricket Association and the Queensland Hockey Association. This commenced direct involvement from both Associations.
During 1950 it was noted on record that the land was referred to as YMCA Oval supporting two cricket fields and four hockey grounds after dozing, levelling and grass planting.
From 1966 to 1979 the Queensland Cricket Association used Shaw Park during summer. Valley Hockey Club was granted a ten year lease from 1958 for use during the winter season. In 1963 a proposal for 6 hockey fields was placed and in 1964 a proposal was placed for a clubhouse.
